Top Things to Pack in Your Birth Bag for YOUR BABY
I’m back with the second in a series of three blog posts about what to pack in your birth bag. This one is all about your new little one who is about to join your family. There are SO many lists about babies needing All. The. Things… well, this isn’t one of them! Hospitals and Birth Centers will supply you with a lot of necessities, so most things you’ll just need to have ready at home. But you do need to bring a few things with you so you’re not brining your baby home just in a diaper.
Check out what to bring for YOU here, and for YOUR PARTNER here.
What to pack for YOUR BABY:
Car Seat - You’ll want to have this ready and installed a few weeks before giving birth. Make sure to get it checked by a CPST (Child Passenger Safety Technician) and read the manual! I know it’s a lot, but it’s a really good way to make sure your little one is safely secured in the car. For more resources on what seats are the best for specific budgets, see here. (The one I linked is my favorite as a CPST for ease of install.)
Large bag/diaper bag - They give lots of freebies at the hospital or birth center, so a bag for them is a great idea (This one or this one are great!)
Outfit for going home - Unless you want your baby coming home in just a receiving blanket, you’ll need an outfit for them. And who doesn’t want a cute one for the pics?
Sleepers - Having a few of these for your stay in the hospital is a must. Bonus points if they have the flaps for over their hands, those newborn fingernails can be sharp!
Hat (only if you don’t want the ones they give you at your place of birth)
Socks - Hospitals can be cold! Keep their little toes warm.
Swaddle blankets - These are perfect for recreating the womb-like squeeze your baby is used to. For more info on how to swaddle, check this out. Your nurses or midwives will also be able to help you get it just right.
Things they’ll give you at your place of birth for the baby, so don’t worry about bringing these unless you want a specific kind - Diapers, wipes, pacifiers, nipple shields, bottles & formula (if using), breast pump.
